I was once watching television and I’ve seen an interview with Marian Rivera, a Filipina actress. The topic of the conversation was all about the way she grooms and makes sure that her toddler, Maria Letizia (Zia) achieves proper grooming and hygiene. She said that at an early age, she already taught Baby Zia on how to use the bathroom as well as how to brush her teeth, comb her hair, etc. She said that the only key in doing such is consistency. They always make it appoint they do such thing as a routine so the toddler already practiced it well. Proper grooming for our toddlers is most of the times difficult to do since they always find a way to escape. In this article, we will be providing you with a list of things to do in order to make your toddler a well-groomed one.
•Imitation is crucial – if your toddler sees you doing your grooming and hygienic tasks, then he/she will get it from you. He /she has the higher possibility of being a well-groomed child since he/she copied that act from you.
•Consistency matters – as what was mentioned by the celebrity Marian Rivera, it should become a routine that should be followed t all times. If your child will somehow see that you’re serious in following such actions, then your child will take such matters seriously too.
•Speak about it – enough and correct explanations on why such things should be done can help you a lot in trying to teach your child. You should be able to provide them the reason as well as the consequences of not doing it the proper way. For example, explain the importance of washing hands and what will happen if he/she will not do it.
•Enjoyable Time – think of innovations on how to make your child interested and motivated in doing this. For an instance, you may get a toothbrush for him/her with designs and light and all the other designs for kids. Look for shampoos and soaps with appealing covers so as to encourage your child to use it often.
•Allow them to get what they need – in a supermarket, ask your toddler to choose what he/she wants from the displayed hygiene and grooming materials. Through this, you can assure that your child will use it because he/she was the one who chose it.
•Make it relaxing – in taking a bath, do not ever hurry in pouring water and cleaning his/her skin. Rather, make a game out of it and savor the time together so that he/she will feel comfortable in what you are doing.
•Think of strategies – for an instance, your toddler is afraid whenever you clip his/her nails. you can either demo it using it in your own nails before her turn. Through this, your child has already witnessed how it works and he/she will have a less fear. But if it won’t simply work, then do it when he/she’s asleep.
