Every parent’s goal is to have a child that they can be proud of, not only in the aspect of becoming a successful person but also in the aspect of being a good person. Teaching good values takes time and effort. This is why it is very important for a parent to impose moral values as early as toddler stage.

Be a role model

Speak to them politely, and they will speak politely as well. Showing them that you are honest will make him be honest also. On the other hand, making them hear you make white lies will just make him think that there is nothing wrong with lying. Letting them hear how you (parents) shout and fight will make him think that it is ok to have a fight with another person.

At a very young age, kids do follow what their parents do and say, thus making every parent a role model for their child. Whatever a parent do, may it be right or wrong, is always right in the eyes of a child; so one must be very careful in their acts. Always set an example.

Make your child be involved and accountable

Teaching your kid the value of generosity doesn’t have to be a hard one. Maybe his older sibling is sick? Try asking your child to bring medicine for them. Or other kid at the school needs help? Ask your child to lend a helping hand. The simple act of giving help will let your child know the value of generosity. You don’t need to help a charity just to teach him this one.

Your child just broke your favorite furniture? Or ruin his older sibling clothes? Don’t let him get away with it. Don’t say that everything is ok. Show her that you are mad if you need to. Show him that what he did is definitely wrong. Let him acknowledge the mistake he has done and teach him to say sorry and let him promise that it will never happen again. These things will make him know how to be responsible for every mistake and understand the value of apologizing.

Develop the good faith in the Lord

Bible is a good tool to teach your child good values so read the Bible with them and let them understand it fully. Creating real life scenario that is connected with the Bible story you just read will make them understand more the lesson for that certain story. It will also help them if you will pray together, every morning and before sleeping. Allow them also to speak their mind and pray whatever he/she wants to pray to. This will develop faith by knowing who and what God is and by having a good relationship and communication with the Lord.

A good fruit is always a product of good roots so start investing time and effort in raising that good fruit of yours. Remember that whatever success a person can get, if he doesn’t have good values, people around him/her will still not look at him very highly.

  1. I agree, being a parent we should be a good role model. I admit I do have some temper at times , but I always remind myself to behave well for the sake of my little ones.
