IMPORTANCE OF PLAY, GAMES, TOYS FOR CHILDREN
As parents, we would like to make sure that our kids get all things that are good for their well-being. We sometimes take them to places just to treat them and make them happy (even if in fact they cannot actually understand that concept yet since they are still young). If we will notice, the sole source of happiness of toddlers aside from their basic needs (milk, love, care), are toys, games, and plays. They seem to be tireless in playing with everything around them and it sometimes irritates us because we simply think of them as being only playful.
The point is, studies suggest that the use of toys, games, and plays is not only for leisure or entertainment purposes. But rather, it can fully maximize the development of our toddlers. And so it is suggested that we allow them to use these things and explore the world of play and game so as to help them develop more physically, psychologically, To explore more the idea, here is the list of its importance:
•Allowing toddlers to play gives them the opportunity to enhance their creativity while at the same time developing their imagination as well as the three crucial skills: cognitive (brain), affective (emotion), and psychomotor (physical).
•They expand their social interaction at an early age since they get to know more playmates and they learn how to deal with people. They become active in dealing with people and they start to develop a friendship.
•They develop self-confidence as they mingle with others. They take initiative in performing game tasks and they take responsibility for every thing that they begin to do as players.
•The use of toys helps them enhance their decision-making skills for they start to decide on what they want to play.
•They maximize their communication skills since they would have to interact with others. They begin to build a set of language that only them and their playmates can comprehend. This is a good way towards vocabulary building.
•And most of all, playing makes them genuinely happy! And such happiness can bring them a lot of memories to cherish and to look back once they grow older!
As petty as it may seem, playing, engaging in games, and using toys is not only for entertainment purposes but it is also a way for toddlers to discover their strengths and weaknesses, develop a variety of skills, and strengthen their social skills. Instead of fretting about the time they spend in playing, we must be more happy and thankful that they begin to interact with others. They become healthier in all aspects of life and they get to learn a lot of new discoveries within their boundaries. And lastly, it is something that our toddlers will remember as they grow up. They will reminisce happy childhood whereas they were allowed to play and had fun. This will make them even stronger and healthier as they grow older.
