Creativity is an inborn talent that your kid may or may not have. Many parents assume that if their kid doesn’t have this talent, it’s already the end of their creative world, but no. Creativity is also a skill that you can inculcate to your kids and start helping them, you can refer to some of the things mentioned in this article.

Give time and space for creative activities. Every child has a limited attention span so setting up a schedule and place for their creative time will be of much help. A regular schedule will also make them used to such activities. Start helping them by arranging art activities like drawing, painting, playing with clays and puzzles. Art expression is the most popular way to nurture the creative side of your child. Not only it will enhance the creativity of your child but it will also practice their concentration and motor skills coordination.

Encouraging your child to participate in literary activities like reading and making up stories is another way to develop his creative side. Start reading bedtime stories and let him think about what might be the ending of the story. Music, on the other hand, is also a form of artistic expression and you can impose it on your kid by teaching them kid children songs. Sing it every day to your kid, while cooking or while you’re in the car. Don’t stop singing it until he fully masters it. He doesn’t have to sing it with perfect words though, they are still a child and don’t expect too much. Having the right tune and a close pronunciation of the lyrics is a good start.

Allotting a space on your house on where your kid can express their creativity is also important unless you wouldn’t care if she will mess anywhere. The garage is a nice place to do painting, while a space in the living room is a good place to play with his puzzles and legos.

Allow your kids to have freedom on certain things – making scenarios, doing mistakes, and disagreeing with you.

Encourage your kid to act as a different person during playtime; whether as a doctor, teacher, parent, or even animals. Let him decide what scenario to do and choose whatever he wants to act as to. On the other hand, allowing your kid to do a mistake that will lead to failure makes him think about how to correct it and will eventually learn from it. Furthermore, let him have the freedom to express what he thinks is right or wrong. This will give him the chance to think other solutions to a certain problem.

Set boundary on the technology/gadget time.

Technology nowadays is reaching out even to toddlers. A lot of kids at a very young age know how to play with smartphones and tablet but don’t let your kid be one of them. There is a time and place for everything and this age is not the right time for it. Furthermore, don’t let your kids watch television the whole day, this can just make him stubborn and a couch potato when the time comes.
Small little things can help them develop their creativity so always give your support to some activities that you think might be helpful for them.

  1. This is a challenge for a parent who is not that creative like me. But I am so glad that you shared this, indeed it doesn’t need to be that complicated.

  2. Just wanted to share…at home I do engage my kid in singing. I am a singer but didn’t force my son to sing. It’s just that I usually, at home whenever I practiced, I tag along my son with me. Now he is already singing and I can see the enthusiasm in him towards singing as well 🙂
