Top Educational Summer Activities for Kids
Who said that enjoying the summer will be purely for fun and enjoyment purposes? Well! The best thing to do in order to maximize the fun time is to put a little dose of education to it. Learning takes place best when the kids are enjoying, so why not inculcate it while doing something they like or while they are playing? Through this, you will be able to hit two birds using one stone. Here is the list of the educational summer activities which are perfect for your kids.
1. Build their own calendar.
Well, they can do this by preparing the necessary materials (papers, colors, etc.), and setting on dates specific activities that your family would take during the entire summer vacation. This will make them very eager to cross out dates and at the same time enhancing their skills on drawing and most importantly on planning.
2. Little Chef.
Instead of asking them to sit on the dining table and wait for their breakfast or snacks to be ready, why not teach them to begin working on their own food? Ask them to prepare their own yogurt, oatmeal, and fruits, whatever it may be. For as long as the adults (parents) would be in charge of working on the knives and other harmful equipment. You are not only teaching them how to cook but you are also teaching them the responsibility of preparing food for others.
3. Work on Bubbles.
Explore the wonders of Science in an enjoyable and at the same time educational way. Make sure to explain each step in an orderly manner so that they could get to appreciate the entire process. Prepare the materials (soap/dishwashing liquid), small plastic bottles, etc. Then, after working on it, prepare for a non-stop laughter and running as you blow bubbles into each other as a family.
Let them imagine their favorite animals and characters and provide papers and scissors (with proper guidance while they are using it). They will then begin cutting their favorite characters on papers and also practice paper folding to produce different images and figures.
5. Light Walk.
This activity will be more focused on the scientific explanation about the light and sun. Opt for a walk outside, use your shadow, and all the available resources to let your kids understand and enjoy learning the concept. Once they go back to school, pretty sure that they will share to friends this amazing experience.
6. Go for Music.
Gather all the empty bottles and put different levels of water with different colors. You now have an instant musical instrument! Such creativity will enhance the musical and artistic side of your kids as they go and play with the instant instruments.
7. Ice Cream.
Rather than buying a ready-made ice cream at the supermarket or ice cream parlor, let your kids decide as to what flavor they like and purchase the materials. Once completed, go on the kitchen together and let them work on their own ice cream.
Why don’t we put a twist on this activity? Instead of simply reading the text allowed, better to let your kids create a tableau or a diorama of the main event of the story. This does not only make them [physically engaged but they will also be developing their creativity as they think of the perfect pose to showcase the story.
Do your best to catch even just a single firefly and teach your kids all the fun facts about it. Once they truly understood the facts, give them the opportunity to release it and watch it fly over the plants freely. You are not only teaching them Science, but you are also emphasizing to them the value of life.
Using different printed connect the dots pattern, ask your kids to create their own mosaic/figure/tessellation using a variety of dots. Not only they will learn about art but they will also learn calculation and logical thinking.

12. Park Tour.
Let your kids enjoy the tour first as they walk and play around, then once you are home, tell them to narrate their experience. In the end, let them give suggestions and recommendations on how people can more so enjoy the park tour. This will let your kids realize that there would be a lot of things that can be done to make things perfect in their surroundings.
13. Rock Collection.
If you would like to teach your kids about the different rocks and yet the resources around you are not available, why not download animated images and videos of it and let your kids watch it as you explain it to them one by one. This will not be a bonding time but more on science-related learning activity.
14. Family Day.
Why not let your kids be the event organizer this time? Instead of preparing everything for them. Let them chose the itinerary, the time allotted for travel, stay, and so on. Another thing to let them plan is the food that you are going to prepare. This does not only make them skillful as to social activities but it also makes them responsible in making decisions.
15. Work on Tangrams.
Ready to gauge your kids into some mathematical challenge? Then prepare all the necessary materials (pieces of papers) and let them enjoy creating figures out of the different shapes of papers.
